This pottery seems to Colorado, the area where it is made. Yes, still made in Colorado Springs today, and the pieces that will accrue value can be obtained in it. I have a collection of pieces from the early days and the recent ones I bought in ceramics. However, the really valuable pieces are from the early years company and sometimes can be collected when the seller is not aware of its value.
History
Artus Van Briggle, a potter and artist, came to Colorado Springs in 1899 and began experimenting with clays in the area. He was a teacher in the mixture of clay and glaze and turning it into art. It also had to capture the Artist of the shape, pattern and color. All parts have a soft glaze and the colors are the colors of Colorado, turquoise, greens, pinks, browns and purples.
Artus descendent of Flemish painters. Born in 1869 in Felicity, Ohio, is said to have demonstrated artistic ability at an early age. He began his studies in Cincinnati and finally, Avon Ceramics apprentice. His mentor in creating ceramics was Carl Langenbeck. He spent several years studying art, partly promoted by the founder of Rookwood Pottery, where he worked for some time. Rookwood was sent to Paris to study ceramics. In fact, he is best known for final discovery of the Ming dynasty enamel, which had been considered lost for centuries.
Anne Lawrence Gregory Van Briggle
While in Paris, met the love of a fellow American student, Anne Lawrence Gregory. They plan to marry in 1895, however, did not work and completed their studies in Paris in 1896 and both returned to America, Anne goes to live with her aunt in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Artus again worked for Rookwood, where he continued to develop their skills and work on the formula of the Ming dead varnish. Unfortunately, he developed tuberculosis and could not work many hours a week. A friend suggested that his health might improve the climate in Colorado Springs, so he moved west.
Anne moved to Colorado Springs in 1900 and became in the art instructor at the local high school. She and Artus developed the logo on most of Van Briggle Pottery, double enclosed in a square. He built a small factory and the company grew from that. He sold his pottery, about 300 pieces in 1901. His reputation grew throughout the world, and before long, was able to find investors and their pottery was erected.
Artus and Anne were married in 1902, Anne became a working partner and as an artist, produced many Parts of the principles that today bring the highest prices in the collectors market. Artus died in 1904, having achieved more in his short life than most artists achieve in life. Anne took over responsibility for managing the plant and fulfillment in the work of Artus. A new state of the art plant was built and became operational in 1908.
Anne remarried and moved to Denver in 1923 and the company went through a turbulent period, the new building finally was damaged by fire and flood. However, he was eventually transferred to roundhouse left Midland Railroad Terminal, which can be accessed today. The pottery is still produced there, and a sample of pottery of different periods including the principles can be seen there. Moreover, Pioneer Museum in the old El Paso County Courthouse has the largest collection.
Van Briggle Pottery Collection
There are many reasons love for pottery collectors. It's beautiful and what looks like no other. Even those who collect Rookwood are attracted to her. After all, the foundation of Artus "was there. The colors are extraordinary, and a collector occasionally find one in an antique store or even a yard sale that turns out to be very valuable. The best way to be sure you are getting an authentic piece of this beautiful pottery is the purchase of a book that shows pictures and will have specific information of what is sought. The one I use is authored by Richard Sasicki and Josie Fania.
